Police: Suspect Charged In Shooting Of 69-Year-Old Man In Gastonia


GASTONIA, N.C. — Detectives with the Gastonia Police Department have arrested and charged a man for his involvement in the shooting of a 69-year-old man in Gastonia on Thursday.

Christopher Levi Stewart, 44, was charged with Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Conspiracy for his involvement, according to a news release.

Investigators say they do not believe that this shooting was random.

Thursday afternoon around 2:23 p.m., officers responded to a home on W. Nineteenth Avenue after a shooting was reported.

Responding officers say they located a victim inside the home suffering from a gunshot wound.

Police say this victim was taken to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries following the shooting.

During the investigation, detectives identified Stewart as a suspect in the shooting and took him in for questioning at the Gastonia Police Department Headquarters, where he was later charged.

The investigation into this case is active and ongoing.
