GASTONIA, N.C. – Neighbors spoke out Monday night at a public hearing about a proposed lithium mine in Gaston County.
Piedmont Lithium has a deal to sell the material to Tesla for electric batteries, but some neighbors have concerns.
Piedmont is seeking a state permit to build a mine at a site off Highway 150, east of Cherryville.
Along with state permits, Piedmont will also need rezoning approval from Gaston County Commissioners.
Because of so much public interest, there will be a second public hearing, held virtually, on Thursday.
