American Airlines Flight Departing From Charlotte Douglas Experienced ‘Mechanical Trouble’


CHARLOTTE — An American Airlines flight from Charlotte Douglas International Airport experienced mechanical trouble Sunday afternoon.

According to American Airlines, Flight 771 from Charlotte to Portland, Maine encountered a “possible mechanical issue” shortly after departure.

American Airlines issued this statement:

“The aircraft returned to CLT where it landed safely and taxied to the gate on its own power.  The flight is scheduled to de-part for PWM on a different aircraft.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

There were 128 passengers on board, including 5 crew members.  No injuries were reported.  The aircraft was an Airbus A319.  The original aircraft has been take out of service for evaluation by the maintenance team.
